Advent Season at St. John's

The season of Advent, which comes from the Latin word adventus meaning "coming" or "visit," begins four Sundays before Christmas and ends on Christmas Eve.  Advent is the beginning of the liturgical year for Christians.  During Advent, we prepare for, and anticipate, the coming of Christ.  To learn more about Advent season in the United Methodist Church, visit www.umc.org/what-we-believe/faqs-what-we-believe

Lent Season at St. John's

Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday.  Lent comes from the Anglo Saxon word lencten, which means "spring."  The forty days represents the time Jesus spent in the wilderness, enduring the temptation of Satan and preparing to begin his ministry.  To learn more about the Lenten season in the United Methodist Church, visit www.umc.org.

The biggest week of Lent for St. John's is Holy Week which starts on Palm Sunday.  Join us as we welcome the King!
