Following God’s Lead

This coming Sunday, May 22 during the 11:00 am worship we will be honoring our seniors. This is a high and holy time in the life of the church. Many of these students have grown up in this congregation. Many of them made their decision of faith here. And now we prepare to send them out into the world to follow where God leads them next on their life’s journey. As they go I hope they will always remember what they learned while they were among us. I hope that we have prepared them for all that is ahead of them. I give God thanks for my own home church and community where I grew up for the way they loved me and prepared me for the day when I went to follow where God led me next. I hope you will be joining this Sunday as we bless them and thank them for being a part of us.

As they prepare for whatever life has for them next I pray that they will never forget that they are loved and that God will always be with them. Those are the two promises God seeks to fulfill in each of our lives as we find God’s way. I hope and pray that they will allow God’s love and presence to continue to shape them, form them, and lead them. I hope that they learned what that looks life from watching you and me and our sense of it as we have sought to be faithful to it in our own lives. We have been so very blessed to have them among us in these past several years. I can hardly wait to see what God does with them as they move into this next phase of their living.

I know that you will join me as we continue to pray for them and God’s blessing and presence to be with them and their families as they move through the sacred and holy transition. Sunday will be a special and memorable day for us all as we come together and celebrate all that they are to us. We give God thanks for them and we send them forth with our blessing and the solid truth of our love.

I hope that as they go that they will also know that whatever happens and wherever the road may take them that they will always have home. There is something incredibly powerful and comforting knowing that such a place and a people are there for you. One thing is for sure, they will always be ours. I hope each of them know how very proud we are of each them. May God bless the senior class of the St. John’s United Methodist Church of 2016! Congratulations seniors!!

I will see you on the road,
