LOVE – Saturday, December 20th

“We love Him because He first loved us. …And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.” 1 John 4:19, 21 New King James Version

“Love”. How do we really know what LOVE is? We read that God loved the people He chose to call His own. We read of His giving instructions on how to live. We read of His judgment and His mercy. I think we read much more about His mercy because of His great love.

He led the rebellious people through a wilderness and led their descendants into the Promised Land. We read of the repetition of the people of Israel turning to other gods. Yet God chose to forgive over and over.
Then we read the greatest love story ever written: We read about the life of our Savior and Lord, how He gave up His place of honor in Heaven. How He lived. And how He gave up His very life for us.

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” John 15:13 New Kings James Version
We also read of God’s ultimate power in the Resurrection of Jesus and the sending of the Holy Spirit. We are not only called to love, but we are enabled to do so by the very life of God in our lives in the Person of the Holy Spirit.

Praise be to God our Father for His unspeakable gift! Amen.
