Day 38 – Renewal

“Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities.  Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me!”  Psalm 51:9-10

“Renew me, God.  I need renewing!”

Don’t we all need to pray this prayer sometimes?  The joy is that our Heavenly Father longs to cleanse us and renew us but waits for us to ask.  God is an awesome God with awesome plans for our lives.  Sometimes we get bogged down with all the little things of daily life – and all the big things too.  There are things that seem to wash the sand from beneath our feet like a wave of the sea, leaving us uncertain of the firmness on which we stand.

We can stay caught up in all this and worry about every little (and big) thing.  Or we can call out to God as the psalmist David did in Psalm 51.  He called out for God to blot out his iniquities.  He asked Him to give him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him.  “Renew me.”  What a prayer!  David was smart.  He noticed his need.  He called out to God.  Do we need to do this any less than he?

Dear God, my Father, look on us as Your children and not at our sin.  Blot out the things in our lives that prevent us from living in the power of Your Spirit.  Renew me, renew us, that we may walk in Your path and fulfill the plans You have for each of us.  Thank You for answering this prayer, even as we pray it.  In Christ’s Name.  Amen.
